The Depressed Economy Is Spawning More Takers For The DIY Home Security System

If you happen to be a home security system professional then you will certainly have reason to be alarmed because of the increasing numbers of DIY home security systems being sold today. In these recessionary times there are many more takers for DIY home security systems than at any time before and the reason for this is that a DIY option provides homeowners with a cost effective solution that is as good as any professionally installed home security system.

Increase In Rates Of Crime

Another reason why DIY home security systems have become so popular is the increase in rates of crime that in turn is closely linked to the depressed state of the economy. According to statistics released by the FBI, a home burglary takes place every fifteen seconds and the average loss to a homeowner is estimated to be about two thousand dollars per single burglary case.

A DIY home security system is also very inexpensive and anyone with basic skills can install one in their home. Since a DIY home security system offers an alternative to getting a home security system installed professionally it makes sense to learn a bit more about how you too can install one in your home.

In fact, today you can go out and purchase a DIY home security system kit and if you know how to use a screwdriver and a drill then this can prove to be a great option for you. These kits come with cameras that are already focused and designed to be set up with minimum fuss though they are at the same time mainly designed for use within a home. If however you wish to mount them outside the home then it is necessary that you ensure using protective housing as otherwise the equipment can easily be damaged by not only changes in weather but also by the intruders.

A typical DIY home security system kit comes with all the required equipment to ensure complete protection to your home and there are also installation materials that can help you fix as many as four cameras and other door equipment that will complete your home security system. To get the most out of your DIY home security system you should first ensure getting security both within and without the house and this of course means starting with installing bolts and locks in the home.

Then you have to take care of properly illuminating your property and after that you can start with installing the home security camera after which you also have to learn how to maintain your DIY home security system.

When you go out and purchase a home security system you will generally find that you can expect to get what you pay for. This will of course give rise to the concern that when buying a cheap home security system will it in fact be able to provide the best protection for your home or not. You must, if you are planning on purchasing the cheaper systems, ensure using common sense and you need to also realize that not even the most expensive home security system is foolproof. This means that whether you choose a cheap or expensive home security system you will still need to know how a particular security system addresses your main security concerns. Addressing your key security concerns effectively is the key to getting the most out of a home security system – whether it is cheap or expensive is a secondary issue.

Do It Yourself Home Security Systems

The DIY affair is back!

We’re talking about the Do It Yourself process of installing home security systems. As modern day technology advances, home security tools and installation costs likewise adds to the thickset price. For this reason, a lot of homeowners would rather do their security alarms themselves, instead of paying for professional/installation fees of complete strangers in mounting their own home security alarms.

Do it yourself home security systems may be a little confusing and difficult on the outset, but the moment you get the hang of things with instructional manuals and the right tools in hand, you’ll certainly have your security alarms fixed in no time. To provide you of further details, you would need these following nuts and bolts.

1. DIY Tip # 1 Provide security in and out of the house through bolts and locks
You probably be wondering why the first step is not at all connected with security cameras, alarms and other electronics. This is because in securing your house, you should predominantly practice the basic of making your abode safe and sound through these bolts and combination locks. This may be the conventional aspect of sheltering ones house, but it is still considered effective and helpful in protecting your home from burglar attacks.

2. DIY Tip # 2 Provide better illumination/lights

Do it yourself home security systems necessitate proper lightings. This is one of those significant considerations that will make up an effective security system. Take for instance the security camera/s that you will install outside of the house. If you don’t have good lighting, how will you be able to see clearly the happenings on the outskirts of your house? Thus, another consideration you should pay particular attention to is on supplying your place with enough illumination. Installing motion detecting lights will also be of sound option.

3. DIY Tip # 3 The installation of your home security camera

You can choose either a wired or wireless security camera. Those who prefer to get hold of the wired versions may need to put in considerable amount of work as the installation of these wired security systems entail wiring positioning and drilling of holes. Those who opt for cheaper security systems with a rather uncomplicated installation can go for wireless security cameras. There are those that are internet-ready with live feedbacks coming from your net connection straight to your monitor. Just imagine the difficulty of not having a video surveillance that comes along with your security system? But with today’s technology, at a less cost, you’ll be able to monitor your property made possible by a net connection and your computer monitor.

4. DIY Tip # 4 A continuous and maintained action

We’re talking about the maintenance of your DIY home security system. And, as part of the maintenance process, you need to have with you a reliable computer, compatible software and enough storage memory for still and digital images.

Mounting up a security system may be a bit strenuous on your part, but the rewards of owning one for your home is nothing compared to the security and protection you are providing to your property and the whole household. So, why ask for professional installers when you can just DIY (Do It Yourself).

DIY Home Security Wireless System System – Dont Be Without One

If people think of the installation of a home security system these people quickly think that it could end up being far too difficult and don’t want to try to install it by themselves. It is really basically much easier than you think and you should save a great deal of money too.

Criminal offenses are on the increase so it is highly important to look at the responsibility of your measures and safeguard your own home and also your family from harm. Implement the idea now before it is too late. Just about the most efficient means of protecting your home from danger without doubt by the installation of a home security system.

Generally there are in essence two variations of security system and those are hard-wired as well as wireless. A hard-wired system was traditionally the sort of system of which is installed in shops, offices and also properties. It offered good reliability and longevity and is extremely long lasting. All the same, these type of systems come at a price. Except if you are really competent at electric installation work really don’t make an attempt at one of these installations your self. You actually really want a expert in order to install hard wired system and this can easily also increase your all round home security deployment costs. Now what options are there and are you able to install a burglar alarm system cheaply?

A wireless security system has a perfect possibility for a do it yourself’er to install their particular alarm system along with save a lot of money. The installation is way more simpler for a wireless security system versus hardwired system.

For starters plan out where you would probably like the actual control panel to be installed. It will usually be located in an easy to get to hallway place. Subsequently make a decision about in the places you prefer your sensors to go. Give full attention to high traffic places such as hallways and landings and make them your initial concern of which you need to have to defend and use PIR motion detection devices for these. Simply start looking at the principal rooms throughout your house, notably the ones that can be readily accessible externaly. Be sure to install PIR motion detector sensors inside these areas as well.

Your exterior entry doors definitely will need to be safeguarded by way of door contact sensors. There are commonly 2 sorts of doorway sensors – delay and also instant. Typically the delay sensor makes it possible for a person to go into the property and offers sensible time so that you can disarm the burglar alarm system. Put in this sensor on your main entry/or exit points of your home. An instant type door sensor will send the particular burglar alarm directly into alarm as soon as the doorway contacts are broken.

As a rule, the majority of wireless sensors tend to be simply attached to the divider or door – that’s it you’re finished! Just learn the sensors into the home security system control panel and you will be protected.

DIY Home Security: Keeping Unwanted Elements Out of Your Home

Let’s face it- crime is here to stay. Often, innocent homeowners and children suffer the worst of crime. Burglary is just one type of crime. What if the burglary becomes something much worse, like all out murder or arson? What happens then?

This marks how important securing your home becomes. The safety of your own home and its inhabitants is in your hands. You wouldn’t have to spend that much money to make your home secure. You simply need to identify the weak points of your residence and further reinforce those. Crime is serious- but so are competent DIY-ers.

The steps

Examining the physical spaces where we live usually is the best first step in any DIY project. As for home security, a simple examination of the already existing safety measure inside and outside your house can save you from a lot of unnecessary expenses.

1. Doors- how strong are your doors? Doors should be solidly built, and should have the strongest locks in place. Solid doors are harder to slam down and solidly built locks are harder to pick. By the time a burglar is able to slam down a door, someone would have been alerted. Or the burglar just quits the job and leaves. The door is the single most important portal into your home. Leave it unguarded and your property is as good as stolen.

2. Locks- if you think “fancy locks” are only for the wealthy, think again. Nowadays you don’t have to be extremely wealthy to be burgled. You only have to show that you own some things of value. If you have weak door locks, think of investing in cylinder locks or mortice deadlocks or equivalents in your area. Locks that use oddly-shaped keys are best- these are by far harder to pick than the usual slim-type lock sets that open with just a few clicks of a mediocre locksmith.

3. Door chains on the other hand, provide another measure of protection when you have to open the door in unusual circumstances. Locked from the inside until unlocked by the person holding the chain, strong chain locks cannot be easily undone by criminals. If you slide the chain a few inches to the left, it would already give you enough gap to see who is outside. Chain locks are also noisy. If your door is being picked, imagine the noise the chain lock would make when the burglar tries to open the door- but can’t because of the unyielding chain.

4. If you are not too comfortable with opening the door for strangers, then perhaps you can install a door viewer to give you piece of mind. Door viewers are non-invasive and require only a few rounds with the drill to install. The small lens comes with a small sliding cover that would allow you to see a wide enough area beyond the locked door.

5. Windows are also prone to being broken. Aside from picking extra strong steel window frames, you can also invest in window locks that resemble mortice deadlocks that can only be unlocked from the inside of the house.

Installing a DIY Home Security System

Not so long ago, a home security system was deemed an expensive, luxury commodity and only the rich could afford to have them. These days, home alarm systems are so reasonably affordable that anyone can buy one. They are also far more sophisticated and reliable than earlier systems. So what about the installation? It doesn’t have to cost anything to install a home security system. Read on to find out why.

You may be thinking, why do I need a security system? By not installing an alarm system you are risking so much. All that you have worked for could be gone forever within minutes. By not installing your own burglar alarm system you are handing a golden opportunity to the burglar to come and help himself.

There are many types of burglar alarm system on the market today and some require a professional installation and other can be easily installed by a DIY’er. The traditional wired security system is far more awkward to install as it requires floorboards to be taken up and even walls channelling to allow the cabling to be installed. This type of alarm system clearly needs a professional installation unless you are very confident about tackling it yourself, so what is the alternative?

A wireless home security system can be easily installed by most keen DIY’ers. If you can use a screwdriver then you will find installing a wireless alarm system a breeze. First, plan out your system and decide how many sensors that you will need. Then, after purchasing the alarm system and sensors, screw them to your walls and “learn” them into the main control panel. The control panel will then respond to the sensors if they get triggered.

The great advantage of a wireless system is that you can install a small number of sensors initially, if so desired. Maybe your budget doesn’t extend to 10 or 15 sensors so just install what you can afford. You can always add to your home security system at a later date. To attempt to add more sensors to a wired system would mean a lot of disruption and another installation bill.

It can be seen why wireless burglar alarms are so popular these days as the attraction of a DIY installation will appeal to those wanting to install their own alarm system.

DIY Home Security Solutions

Why take any risks when it comes to the safety of your home and family? It doesn’t require vast sums of money or effort to keep burglars away from your home. And we are sure that you’d rather rest peacefully, knowing you’ve done what you can to protect the people and possessions in your life that are most precious to you. Therefore let’s look at just some of the cost effective ways in which you can achieve your goal of home security:

Security Lights

Security lights may be used in residential, commercial, industrial settings. Some types of security lighting include floodlights. Most lights intended to be left on all night are fitted with low energy bulbs as these have good energy efficiency, therefore reducing the cost of running a light for such long periods.

Some other lights may be activated by sensors such as Passive Infrared Sensors; these sensors are known as PIR sensors, which turn on only when a person approaches. PIR activated lamps will usually be incandescent bulbs so that they can activate instantly; energy saving is less important as these type of lights will not be on all the time. PIR sensor activation can increase both the deterrent effect as the intruder becomes aware that they have been detected and the detection effect as a neighbour will be attracted to the sudden increase in light. Some PIR units can be set up to sound a chime in your home and even take photographs/ video of the area they have been set to cover, as well as turn on the light. Most modern units have a photocell so that they only activate when it is dark.

Security Cameras

Cameras for home security come in many forms, with the most popular being, the dummy camera which is a great visual deterrent to any thief viewing your property. They are very cost effective and extremely simple to fit with no running costs, a large variety of models are available covering internal, external use and even ones with mock infrared lights for night time filming.

For those on a larger budget digital security cameras may suit your needs, these cameras can be linked to your home TV to allow you to view areas of your property from the comfort and safety of your home, you can also record your CCTV filming on to a DVR for your records.

With recent advances in electronics you can now purchase models that combine flood light, camera, pir and speaker in the same unit for around the £100.00 this must be a very cost effective solution to adding peace of mind to any home.

Wireless Alarm Systems

In the past the cost of a burglar alarms was expensive and involved having a professional alarm company in your home running cables all over the house and charging you an annual maintenance fee.

With new fast developing wireless technology we are all now using on a daily basis, this has changed the home alarm system market dramatically, wireless alarm systems are now available which are wire free, easy to install, and suitable to take with you should you move property, these systems range from a simple alarm for your drive to tell you in advance that someone is coming to your door to a full multi zone system which can include out buildings and is simply set with a remote control unit as leave your property

Security Safes

One area that many home owners overlook when looking at their home security, is the storage of documents such as pension papers, bank books, wills, insurance papers, passports etc. All such items should be kept in a safe and secure container when not in use, many people just put them in a drawer, it is not expensive to purchase a metal deed box to keep them safe, or a small digital safe if you wish to spend a little more, one of the most popular choices is to purchase a fire and water proof deed box which are on the market at the £50.00 price and would reduce the stress of requesting details from banks, insurance companies and government departments many of which now charge for replacement documentation

Defending the Fortress: Does DIY Home Security Work?

The thought of spending lots of money every month on a monitored home security system can make some people’s teeth curl. With many expenses already draining on funds, it’s hard to imagine having to make and extra dent in the bank account for something that, perceptively anyway, may only ever really be used once in a lifetime. The problem with a security plan is that if it’s working correctly, it seems like it’s never used, making it hard to justify the extra cost. This leads many people to try DIY home security. This method has far more to do with mental planning, theorizing and preparation than it does with anything based in the real world, and for these reasons often fails.

Many people like to believe that if someone was entering the home during the night they would immediately wake up, grab the nearest heavy object, and defend the home nobly. While that is a nice heroic fantasy, it does not accurately describe the majority of home intrusions. More often than not home burglaries happen during the daytime when everyone is at work or school, making it awfully hard to hear a window being broken. Other people assume the neighbors or a passerby will hear or see what is going on and call the authorities, but that cannot be counted on either. People are not likely to follow up on a noise, even a loud shatter, if it only happens once. They chalk it up to an accident or purposeful action, and move on with their current activities. Finally, many people believe that they would be able to overpower an intruder physically or with a weapon, but when faced with the actual situation are unable to do so. Realistically, the intruder has the advantage because he is prepared and mentally ready for conflict. Most people are so caught off guard in an emergency situation that the valuable seconds they need to react are spent stunned. Additionally, unless you have a weapon within reach at all times, it is not likely you will get to the weapon you want before the intruder gets to you.

All of this bad news is not to say that it’s a lost cause defending your home. What it is to say is that the value of a home alarm system is not just in protecting your belongings, but your family and your peace of mind. A monitored system will even alert the authorities right away, as well as sounding an alarm for your, to let them know that you’re in need of help. If you’re not home, you will immediately be contacted and informed of the situation. Having extra sets of eyes and ears monitoring your home at all times can really help you to relax and enjoy life instead of picturing how you might wrestle down a burglar that comes smashing through the window. There’s a good reason that more and more homeowners install home security systems every day: it’s because they work to not only catch burglars in the act, but deter them from ever attempting entry in the first place. It just might be the best investment you never w

DIY Home Security Systems

DIY home security systems are becoming both easier to buy ans easier to install as the demand for home security systems that can be installed by the home owner goes up. Installing your own security system is quite difficult but is definitely not impossible especially with the latest diy home security systems which are becoming easier and more affordable to install.

Probably the most difficult aspect of setting up your system is the need for drilling and running cables, even if you are installing a wireless home security system. That said the instructions that come with the security packages are very easy to follow and even the most inexperienced handyman should have little problems. Also doing it yourself means that only you know how it is set up which increases the safety of the system.

There is an ever widening array of options when it come to choosing your home security system and probably the best and easiest to install is the wireless version. If you are installing a conventional wired system there is a lot more drilling involved and just deciding how and where to run all the cabling can be a big headache all on its own. Obviously choosing a wireless option reduces the need for cabling although there is still a small amount required.

Because of the rise in the availability of DIY home security sytems, most good hardware or DIY stores stock them in a wide variety of features and of course cost. They come packaged in kit form and with great step by step instructions, though it is probably a good idea to talk to someone in the store to see if the system is right for you both in terms of ease of installation and suitability for your type of house. You could also check out reviews online as this is often the best source of truthful information.

A few things you should bear in mind when installing your DIY home security system are as follows. The first thing to consider is where are you going to install the system control panel, where you set the alarm etc. Many home owners will install it right by the front door and while this is convenient for you it is also convenient for any burglar! Try to find a more secure or hidden location. Before you start drilling holes to mount your control panel also remember it will need power.

Next you have the alarm or buzzer. This must be placed somewhere that enables the noise to be heard throughout the house. Personally I would choose one with a battery backup in case of any power failure. When it comes to the motion sensors use common sense when placing these. Also remember that they are probably the most sensitive component in the system so handle them with care.

Lastly make sure you read the installation guide or manual thoroughly from start to finish before beginning to install you DIY home security system. If you install it bit by bit you may find that you make a mistake with something that occurs near the end of the manual. Personally I would recommend reading it from start to finish at least twice before even opening your tool box.
